Western Comfort Food at Sunshine Kitchen The Fort

Thursday, July 03, 2014

Bonifacio Global City is slowly shaping its scenery, catering to the hungry tastebuds of foodies. With a lot of restaurants sprawled in hectares of land developed by Ayala, It's rounding up to become a foodie haven ranging for budget friendly and upscale restaurants.

The Fort Strip is known for as a "strip" of Gastropub and lounges. Little do you know, there are a lot of restaurants that serves comfort food within the area. Bloggers were invited to Sunshine Kitchen, a quaint restaurant at The Fort Strip, to try their menu and best sellers.

Sunshine Kitchen is located at the second floor at The fort strip. It is tucked carefully at the corner of the strip with a wide glass window overlooking the space below. One step at Sunshine Kitchen, you'll be transported to an open kitchen in one of the Western loft apartments.

Their interiors are vibrant and full of light which holds true to it's name, Sunshine Kitchen. You'll be welcomed with brick walls, creatively placed hanging plants and lightbulbs, wooden chairs and tables and their open (separated by clear glass) kitchen. It exudes a homey atmosphere.

Sunshine Kitchen opens at lunchtime (11AM-2PM). We arrived just as the lunch hour's about to end. We met Tanya, the chef and part owner of Sunshine Kitchen. We got to see her in action, in the kitchen, preparing the dishes we were about to try.

Here are some of the delicious we've tried that day:

Cheese Balls (Php 290)

These Crispy Cheeseballs are so cheesy which goes well with the Pimento Puree and Marinara Sauce. It was good that this appetizer was gone in a few seconds.

Porchetta Sandwich (Php 390)

It consists of their bestseller 6 Hour slow Roast Porchetta on a crisp ciabatta bread. It comes with roasted garlic, green onion salsa, mozzarella cheese, arugula and crispy pork skin.It has garlic aioli and mustard as a choice of dressing. Better eat this while it's hot for you know how ciabatta bread is when it gets cold.

Artichoke and Mushroom Pizza (Php 550)

Sunshine Kitchen is known for their artisanal pizzas. This pizza was scrumptious with the right balance of flavors from the artichoke and mushroom and distinct saltiness that would make you get another slice. I'm not sure if ho sauce will go well with it, but you can also ask one if you prefer. Or, you can ask for their chili oil which I think is better to add a spicy kick.

Beer Braised Beef Belly (Php 490)

This is made of beef belly simmered till tender in Cerveza Negra, served swimming in gravy and sour cream, with mashed potatoes and sauteed vegetables on the side. This is savoringly good and will satisfy your hungry tummy in an instant.

6 Hour Slow Roast Porchetta (Php 550)

This is one of the best sellers in Sunshine Kitchen It is made of Porchetta (pork) roasted in a mix of herbs and spices on low heat for 6 hours. It is served with rice pilaf, French beans, and 3 dipping sauces; gravy, vinaigrette, and roasted garlic and herb salsa. It's quite similar to bagnet in many levels. Yum!

Pan Fried Sole in White Wine and Caper Sauce with Tomatoes (Php 390)

The fish was tender and yummy, but a bit salty on the side. The saltiness may be attributed to the white wine and caper sauce.

Cabanatuan Longganisa Paella with 2 Fried Eggs (Php 480)

Their version of paella was uniquely different but none the less tasted delicious. You can taste the tiny bits of longanisa. The two eggs on top was not only an eye candy, but contributed to the flavor of the dish.

Truffled 4 Cheese Pasta with Smoked Bacon (Php 420)

This is one of the Best sellers at Sunshine Kitchen and my favorite as well. It is made with four cheese and truffle sauce tossed with bacon bits that's so creamy and tasty. It was heavenly, I must say. I can confidently say that I can finish two servings of it in one sitting.

Angus Steak and Eggs

We also got to try the newest dish on their menu, Angus Steak and Eggs. It's 100% Angus Ribeye, Tapa Style with a Poached Egg, and Hollandaise Sauce. This is Sunshine Kitchen's version of our favorite Filipino Breakfast staple, Tapsilog. The Angus steak was tender and yummy.

Though they have limited dessert selection, their desserts surely packed flavors that will curb your sweet tooth after that delicious meal, here are two of them:

Key Lime Pie Ice Cream Php 240 (by the pint: Php 480)

You cannot miss their Key Lime Pie Ice Cream when you dine at Sunshine Kitchen. It was tangy and succulent in all the right places. It was a refreshing take to ice cream because it was not to sweet nor creamy.

Toblerone and Cheese Crisp (Php 260)

This dessert is made with phyllo pastry along with cream, topped with toblerone bits. The phyllo pastry balances the sweetness of the chocolate and cream. It was tasty.

PROMOS at Sunshine Kitchen

Sunshine Kitchen is offering lunch sets for as low as Php 399. Available on weekdays, you can choose from the Pan Fried Sole Fish, Beer Braised Beef Belly, 6 Hour Slow Roast Porchetta, and Fried Chicken with Ragu Papardelle. My dining experience at Sunshine Kitchen had been awesome. I loved their interiors and the food was superb. See how my photos came out perfect? I was just using my Iphone. Sunshine Kitchen has ample lighting that is ideal to take those #foodgasm #foodselfie shots. I definitely would go back at dine here to try other dishes in their menu. They have a list of beer/drink pairings for their dishes, which I'm excited to try.

Which of these yummy dishes are your favorite?
