Simple Pork Sinigang

Sunday, June 09, 2013

Sinigang is a staple for every Filipino household. It had been a crowd favorite ever since. It is actually easy to cook this recipe because of the commercialized soup packs readily available to aid busy people in cooking it. Different ingredients can be used as a base for the sinigang recipe like pork, shrimp and chicken (which is also known as Sinampalukang Manok). Here's my version of the very easy and simple pork sinigang.

Sinigang na Baboy ( Pork in Tamarind Soup)

Ingredients:
1/2 kilo Pork, cut into chunks
3 tomatoes, sliced
1 onion, diced
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 bundle of Kangkong (river spinach)
1 pack of sinigang mix
patis (fish sauce) to taste

3/4 liter of water
Instructions:

In a pot, sauté garlic and onion then add the tomatoes. Let simmer for 5 minutes.
Add pork and fish sauce then add the water. Bring to a boil then simmer for 15 minutes until the pork is tender.
Add the kangkong. Let boil for 2 minutes.
Serve piping hot.
Note:
I called it simple sinigang because I only used a few vegetables (tomatoes and kangkong). We both don't eat the other vegetables in the traditional sinigang, so we opted it out to eliminate food waste.

Enjoy!

  1. This reminds me of the best sinigang I ever had. Luto yun ng MIL ng officemate ko. As in super! Like super unforgettable. Arrggh!

  2. The recipe seems easy to follow, but probably we will have to replace pork with fish or vege meat because we don't eat pork. :)
